The first season of the RGBL is coming to an end, and the tension on the court has reached its highest as the teams meet in the semi-finals and compete for the ticket to the grand final. The final competition of the season will be held this coming Saturday at the Littleport Leisure Centre, where we invite all fans to come and have fun!
In the first semi-final the winners of the regular season “Dragons” met “Wolfs” team, which is counting its first season. The game started hard and it seemed that “Wolfs” were not ready to give up their ticket to the finals without a fight. In the middle of the first quarter the wolves led 11:5 but dragons finished it strong and took the lead 17:14. The second quarter was close, the teams exchanged successful attacks, but none of them managed to gain a bigger advantage and before the long break “Dragons” led 32:24.
Everything seemed to turn upside down after the break. “Dragons” continued to collect points and “Wolfs” stuck in the grip of the opponent’s defense, scored only 3 points during the quarter and fell behind with a crushing result of 49:27. In the final quarter, the “Dragons” increased the pace of the game even more and simply swept the opponents to win the quarter with a score of 28:9, and the final score of the game 77:36 announced more than a guaranteed win for the “Dragons” and a ticket to the finals. It is worth noting that 36 points scored per game is an anti-record for this RGBL season.

M.Milius with 26 points and T.Zobiela with 21 points led “Dragons” to the victory. H. Petrauskas was the most productive among the “Wolfs” with 16 points.

The second semi-final promised much more intrigue, as “Meru” and “Tauras” teams won against each other in the regular season. As expected, the game started with a tough fight, but “Tauras” players attacked the basket more accurately and gained an early advantage 16:9 in the middle of the first quarter. At the end of the quarter the game evened out, but Peterborough representatives kept a fragile lead with a score 24:20. In the second quarter “Meru” tried to change the game, but “Tauras” was always able to respond with effective attacks and even increased its lead to 46:39 at the halfway point of the game.

Ipswich representatives, who made good use of the long break in the game, started the third quarter very strongly. The difference between the teams decreased almost every minute, and after several more successful attacks at the end of the quarter, “Meru” was already ahead 63:57. However, “Tauras” showed its horns and tied up the score in the first minutes of the last quarter. It seemed that a tense end of the game was waiting, but the players of “Tauras” were not even going to stop and started to increase their lead. With 5 minutes left to play, the teams were already separated by 9 points, and although “Meru” still tried to restore intrigue, “Tauras” players withstood the onslaught of their opponents and celebrated the win. Peterborough representatives won the decisive quarter of the game 28:13, and the final score 85:76 meant that “Tauras” will meet “Dragons” in the grand final.
